Meet our Director
Stephen Long – Director of Bands
Stephen Long is in his 6th year at Etowah High School. He has taught 4th and 5th-grade band in Fulton County, GA, and 6th-12th grade band for 6 years in the Long Beach School District located in Mississippi. Long received both his Bachelor’s Degree of Music Education and Masters of Music in Conducting from Reinhardt University. During his tenure as high school and middle school director, Long’s bands have received consistent Superior ratings at the state and local level for marching and concert performances. Long is active in the local and state band director associations, and participates in adjudication for solo/ensemble festivals, honor band auditions, and pre-festival evaluations.
Long’s professional affiliations include: National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, National Band Association, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Phi Kappa Lambda Honors Music Society, Mississippi Band Masters’ Association, Gulf Coast Band Directors’ Association.
Long grew up around North Georgia and attended Woodstock High School for a short time during high school. While attending Reinhardt University he worked closely with the Sequoyah Band Program and worked with Etowah’s previous director, Michael Foxworth, during his first two years in Woodstock. It has been such a pleasure to become reacquainted with Cherokee County as well as work with the find students here at Etowah High School.
He is very excited to continue as part of a community he calls home, and to work with the incredible staff, students, and administration at Etowah High School! Mr. Long is married to Beth Long and enjoying baby life with their new daughter Eleanor!
